IBT Set for 2019

The International Billfish Tournament of Club Náutico de San Juan is back on in its traditional schedule with the 2019 tournament set for the month of August, said Salvador Egea Jr., chairman of the event’s 66th edition.

“In the months of August and September, the blue marlin roams the great depths around San Juan (Puerto Rico) as part of its migration and becomes a little more accessible to anglers who have more opportunities to get one on one with the big blue and feel that one of a kind rush of adrenaline,” Egea said referring to the upcoming blue marlin season.

“Very few areas in the world offer so much opportunity as San Juan and very few tournaments in the Caribbean seek out the blue marlin,” he said. This is the longest consecutively held international big game fishing tournament in the world.

The IBT returns with its unique features including a Commodore’s Boat Parade and Grand Fiesta on August 10, registration on Monday, August 12; a special competition — International Billfish Challenge — to be held Tuesday, August 13 and different meetings and Flag Ceremony on Wednesday, August 14.

The first day of fishing kicks off Thursday, August 15, Friday is free, fishing resumes Saturday, August 17 and the 66th edition concludes Sunday, August 18.
