Great full day charter with Nick, Sam, and their dad today!! We skipped catching live bait in the morning and gambled we’d have action trolling lures and dropping jigs offshore. We had a late season cold front move through last night, so it was a strong north wind with chilly temperatures early this morning. We pulled the wahoo lures on our way out and right when we were about to crank them in the left Long went screaming!! A few minutes later Nick had his first ever wahoo in the boat!!! Always an exciting bite when your running 15 mph!! We headed to the hump after that and it was non stop action with football size Blackfin tuna, big amberjacks, and monster almaco jacks the next two hours. We kept one big Amberjack for the smoker and released the rest. We wahoo trolled back to the reef and anchored down to catch some live bait just before lunch. It was tough with crystal clear water and the current moving into the wind, but we managed a handful of ballyhoo. The wind let up by this time and it was very nice out. I had a few goggle eyes I brought from the cage , so we put one kite up with a couple gogs and a ballyhoo the next hour just outside the reef. After an hour without a bite we did a little trolling and put a cero mackerel in the box. A few minutes later we found a Sailfish on top of the reef chasing ballyhoo. It was a pretty sight in 30’ of water but we couldn’t get him to bite, even with light fluorocarbon leader. We looked around the last hour for Sailfish and Cobia inside the reef, but no luck. We finished the day catching a couple barracuda for fun.

Back at it tomorrow!!
