Saturday was a beautiful day to be out on the sea, little or no wind and blue skies. All we needed were some fish to complete the day! The fish were not playing ball to start with but we eventually tracked a few down who were willing to give their lives for the cause and make our day.
Tarakihi were the main catch but we did get some legal snapper and one lovely legal kingfish. Unfortunately my phone had gone flat so no kingi photo.
The tarakihi seem to have moved in closer so lets hope they stay for awhile.
Squid worked well but some fell for skippy as well.
The water is warming up so we should see more kingi's and snapper soon.
Weather looks good this weekend coming so here's hoping.

Sunday was another perfect day in the Bay. The low pressure system that was moving off to the East left a residual long legged three metre swell. The sun shone and the cloud formations were amazing. Heading out about three miles we stopped on a reef showing a good sign of fish on the sounder. Initially the only fish to come on board were baby snapper but as the hours passed the size of the snapper increased, some tarakihi came on board, a few kingis just under legal size and a John Dory. Squid and pilchards both worked well as bait. It was hard to leave the fishing grounds and head for home but all good things come to an end..... till next time.
