Blues Show Up in Time for MidAtlantic Cup Blue Marlin Tournament!

The 2019 billfish season is well underway along the mid-Atlantic coast as sea surface temperatures are working their way into typical summer ranges. Additionally, thanks to a strong showing of forage species including football-size yellowfin tuna, dolphin, false albacore and other baitfish, releases of blue marlin have already occurred at the canyons. July typically hails the start of the offshore tournament season in the mid-Atlantic region and this year a unique new event will take place. We’re just days away from The MidAtlantic Cup Blue Marlin Tournament will be held on Thursday, July 4th and this one-day, winner-take-all event offers an opportunity for participants to fish out of their own port, regardless of where it is! Boats from Sandy Hook, New Jersey to Virginia Beach, Virginia can compete in this event as weigh stations have been carefully selected to allow maximum fishing time and provide a convenient location to weigh their catch! Participants may fish wherever they choose. Worthy of note is The MidAtlantic Cup Blue Marlin Tournament has partnered with the Blue Marlin World Cup which also is held on July 4th! Enter both events and increase your payout chances!

Part of the renowned MidAtlantic “Signature Series” of events for 2019 and produced by South Jersey Tournaments, The MidAtlantic Cup Blue Marlin Tournament awards a cash payout for the single heaviest blue marlin! Entry fee is $2000 and the cash purse for this event will be 80% of all entry fees. Entering the tournament couldn’t be easier as online registration can be completed at www.SouthJerseyTournaments.com. Note that all participants will receive an entry confirmation number prior to July 4th and deadline for entry is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd. This is a one-day only event and there is no weather committee or weather day. Depart any marina at any time and remember, there are no boundaries! “Lines In” on July 4th is set for 8:30 a.m. and “Lines Out” is 4:30 p.m. though note that fishing for bait prior to “Lines In” is permitted. There is no minimum weight though a blue marlin must measure 106” lower jaw fork length to qualify for the tournament and the single heaviest blue marlin caught in accordance with tournament rules will be declared the winner.
