Surface yellowtail fishing took off in the afternoon yesterday. Still using 6x jr.s in the blue mackerel pattern. Good grade of fish out here as well. Hooked 6 on the iron and brought in 3 with 1 also caught on the troll using a blue mackerel mirr-o-lure. Most fish were found under working birds with some free swimming schools roaming around. Yellows were spread out in the deeper waters from 1 to 3 miles north of San Miguel Reef. My group also did a number on some shallow water rockfish and ling cod using a variety of jigs and cut squid with the majority of our fish caught in less than 120 feet. Rockfishing took place from Punta Salsipuedes to the Sempra gas plant. I had good success on some quality lings using an anchovy colored flat fall type jig that I picked up at the Leadmasters booth at the Fred Hall Show.
