Situated along the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola the Dominican Republic is ideally positioned along the Mona Passage, which connects the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. This 65 NM wide channel separates the D.R. from Puerto Rico and is a thoroughfare for numerous species of pelagic predators.
